Chapter 15: Sharing, Tracking, and Management
15.9. Tracking Usage of the Report
Understanding how your Looker Studio reports are being used is essential for optimizing their effectiveness and ensuring that your audience is engaged. You can track the usage of your Looker Studio reports just like any other website using Google Analytics, both Universal Analytics and GA4.
Setting Up Google Analytics for Looker Studio
To set up Google Analytics for your Looker Studio report, go to "File" and click on "Report Settings." Enter your Google Analytics 4 Stream ID or Universal Analytics tracking ID (or both, separated by a comma) to track the usage of the reports in both accounts.
You can create a template to connect to any Google Analytics account that you have access to, as long as it is collecting data from Looker Studio Reports. This template will allow you to see the number of page views, average time on page, report titles that have been viewed, and the actual titles of internal pages within those reports.
Exploring GA4 Tracking
While Universal Analytics provides valuable insights into report usage, GA4 offers additional tracking capabilities. As you explore GA4's features, you can create a template specifically designed for GA4 tracking, which will provide even more valuable insights into how your Looker Studio reports are being used.
The Value of Tracking Usage
By tracking the usage of your Looker Studio reports, you can gain a better understanding of which pages are being viewed, how often they are accessed, and how long users spend on each page. This information can help you identify areas for improvement and ensure that your reports are effectively engaging your audience.
